Obituary for Diane Marion Tegelberg (Lenahan)

Diane Tegelberg, age 89, a resident of Montesano, died Aug. 6, 2021. Diane was born in 1932 in Everett to James and Doris (Larson) Lenahan. Diane moved to Aberdeen in 1945 and graduated from Weatherwax High School, class of 1950.

Diane is preceded in death by her three brothers: Ronald, Patrick and Walter Lenahan and by her son David Tegelberg. Diane is survived by her husband, Herb; her sister, Sherri Downes (Bryan); sons, Arnold Tegelberg and Allan Tegelberg (Margaret) and grand-children, Devin and Anna Tegelberg plus many cousins, in-laws and nieces and nephews whom she loved deeply.

As a young teen in Everett, Diane picked berries and went to dances where she first met the love of her life, Herb Tegelberg. Later in Grays Harbor they rediscovered each other at the D & R Theater and married in 1955. She worked as a dental assistant to Dr. John Canterbury as well as for other Harbor dentists. She also worked for Fogde and Jensen Construction and Garrett Freightlines and was legislative assistant to Senator J.T. Quigg. As a young mother, Diane served as a Welcome Wagon greeter for new Aberdeen residents and was active in the Lillian Delanty Orthopedic Auxiliary. She also volunteered at Grays Harbor Community Hospital.

Diane had a dynamic personality and fostered long term relationships with close friends and her sisters from the class of 1950. She was an avid reader and crossword puzzle solver and loved singing old songs and dancing at the Elks. Diane and Herb hosted many family gatherings and played couples bridge with a dedicated group of best friends. Once the boys were raised, Diane and Herb became snowbirds and spent many winters in Arizona and Mexico and the rest of their time was spent at Montesano Country Estates where Diane and Herb have many friends.

In respect of Diane’s wishes, there will not be a funeral. Diane will be interred at Wynoochee Cemetery in Montesano.
