Obituary for Ronald Lloyd "Ron" Benton

Ronald Lloyd Benton, 74, passed away at home in Montesano, Washington on Monday, October 11, 2021. Ronald was born August 15, 1947 in Fairfield, California to Gregory and Ollie (Jackson) Benton.
Ron was raised in Vallejo, California where he graduated from Vallejo Senior High School. He later attended Solano College in Suisun, California. Ron was very proud of his Yaqui heritage.
On November 22, 1974 Ron married Mary Frances McBride in Suisun, California. She remains at the family home.
Ron worked for the Federal Government for 40 years before retiring in 2005. He began his career at the Mare Island Naval Shipyard in Vallejo, California working on nuclear submarines. He later transferred to the Sacramento Army Depot, where he was employed first as a sheetmetal mechanic, and later as a computer analyst. During his time in the Federal Government, he also spent many years at the GSA in Auburn, Washington; the USDA in Columbia, Missouri, and the NRCS in Casper, Wyoming. After retirement, he moved on to the Wyoming Medical Center, where he supervised the IT Help Desk for the hospital. After moving to Grays Harbor, Washington in 2012, he chose to simply enjoy his remaining years as a retiree. He enjoyed watching movies, television, listening to music, and working with computers. Ron was also a lifelong motorcycle enthusiast.
In addition to his loving wife of almost 47 years, he is survived by five children. Paul (Lisa) Scrogings of Suisun, CA; Christina “Tina” (Carl) Baily of Idaho Falls, ID; Jeff (Michelle) Scrogings of Woodland, CA; Ronald “Ron” (Olga) Rose of Shelley, ID; and Pamela (Erin) Ward of Montesano, WA. Ron also has 16 grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and a surviving niece, Kathleen Zimmerman of Fairfield, CA. He was preceded in death by his parents Gregory and Ollie Benton; sisters Nancy Welsh and Mary Peay ; brother Gregory Rea Benton Jr. who has been listed as MIA from the Vietnam War since 1969.
As per his wishes, there won’t be any formal services for Ron. Cremation arrangements are entrusted to Harrison Family Mortuary in Montesano.
